Day One
Genesis 1:1-5 says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.”And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.
Lesson idea: Sit in a dark room and explain how darkness isn’t anything to be afraid of. In the beginning, there was darkness, and God was there. Now, sitting in darkness, God is here (Psalm 139:7-12). Then have the kids turn on flashlights and say, “Let there be light!” Explain that God has the ability to make things happen suddenly or somethings can take a process like a baby growing in the tummy.
Day Two

Genesis 1:6-8 says, “Then God said, ‘Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth.‘ And that is what happened. God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens. God called the space “sky.”And evening passed and morning came, marking the second day.
Stem Lesson: My kids loved this lesson! With this lesson, your kids will learn the concept of separation. Here are the instructions to creating the sky!
Supplies
- vegetable oil
- water
- blue food coloring
- glass jars/empty bottles
- cotton balls or styrofoam *optional
Instructions
- Fill half the jar/bottle with water
- Add a few drops of blue food coloring and stir
- Fill remaining jar with oil and shake. Now, it’s time for a little bit of patience! Have the kids stare as they watch the oil and water separate.
- Get creative and add cotton balls or styrofoam to make it look like clouds.
For this lesson, I also used this science kit for some of the supplies.
Day Three
Genesis 1:9-13 says “Then God said, “Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may appear.” And that is what happened. God called the dry ground “land” and the waters “seas.” And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let the land sprout with vegetation—every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came.” And that is what happened. The land produced vegetation—all sorts of seed-bearing plants, and trees with seed-bearing fruit. Their seeds produced plants and trees of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. And evening passed and morning came, marking the third day.
Lesson: This is a good time to explain the difference between lakes, rivers, and oceans. All created by God! Then, let’s develop those motor skills by playing in the dirt and planting seeds. Head over to your local garden shop and grab a few items to start a mini garden at home. You might be able to get some free seeds at your local library.
You can search “seed library” in your area and see if any libraries in your area give free seeds. You can also search for “seed swaps” in your area. Get free seeds and meet knowledgeable gardeners who will be happy to answer any questions.
Day Four
Genesis 1: 14-19 says, “Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years. Let these lights in the sky shine down on the earth.” And that is what happened. God made two great lights—the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set these lights in the sky to light the earth, to govern the day and night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And evening passed and morning came, marking the fourth day.”
Art Lesson: Let’s talk about seasons! What season are we in? What can we expect in this season? Now, let’s go back to the 90s and create a mini solar system. Grab some styrofoam balls and some paint, because you need to make the sun, moon, and stars. Who remembers making a styrofoam solar system growing up?
Day Five
Genesis 1:20-23 “Then God said, “Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind.” So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird—each producing offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply. Let the fish fill the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.” And evening passed and morning came, marking the fifth day.
Lesson: I have two fun lessons for this day!

Teach a lesson on the life cycle of fish! For this lesson, we talked about what we have in common with a fish, like eyes and a mouth. Then we explored the differences like tail, fins, and scales. We finished the lesson by making a colorful fish!

Supplies:
- Dot stickers
- Construction paper
Instructions: Draw a fish on construction paper and let the kids add its scales (dot stickers). My 6-year-old made his scales into a pattern, which would be another great challenge to the lesson! Have an example fish and see if they can follow or complete the pattern.
Option Two: Go bird-watching! We first discussed the types of birds native to North Carolina and watched a video on different bird sounds. Then, you know what we did next! We went outside to explore! Use this printable scavenger hunt to bump up the fun!

Day Six
Genesis 1: 24-31 says “Then God said, “Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild animals.” And that is what happened. God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to produce offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”
So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.” Then God said, “Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.
And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground, everything that has life.” And that is what happened. Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day.

With Spring in full bloom, it’s the perfect time to take learning outside! Grab a table, chairs, and some art supplies, and get ready for a fun shadow drawing activity. We recently explored the amazing animals God created, and then the kids had a blast tracing their shadows. If your little ones are under six, be sure to show them how to trace the shadow by example—they’ll love joining in on the creative fun!
Another fun activity is creating self-portraits! Have the kids draw themselves and proudly declare it “good,” just like God did when He created us. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to dive into human anatomy! Explore the fascinating parts of the eye or even talk about the importance of our bones. There’s so much to discover—and it’s a great way to celebrate how wonderfully we are made! (Psalm 139:14)
Day Seven
Genesis 2:1-3 says “So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.
Today is the perfect day to skip homeschooling and bask in the beauty of God’s creation! Step outside and play under the sun He made, spend time with your favorite person, or visit the zoo to marvel at all the amazing animals God created! Whether you start or end your day, be sure to take a moment to praise God for all the wonderful things you’ve enjoyed today!
